BLP sponsors The Building Centre's Summer Exhibition: 60 Buildings 60 Years
London Architecture Jubilee Celebration
The Building Centre’s major summer exhibition 60 Buildings 60 Years opened on 28 June and runs until 13 September. The show, sponsored by BLP Insurance, takes a look at the best of London’s Architecture built over the last six decades and forms part of the London Festival of Architecture 2012.
The last 60 years has seen an unprecedented number of building projects take shape ranging from post-war reconstruction to the wholesale development of Canary Wharf as a new business district. All of this has been predominantly led by British architects and engineers. The 60 projects on show have been selected by a panel including Victoria Thornton, Peter Murray, Ken Powell, Lyn Bryant and Catharine Croft.
60 Buildings 60 Years runs until September, it marks the Diamond Jubilee year and remains open throughout the London 2012 games. The show contains firm favourites, hidden gems and a few controversial choices. The exhibition, which is free to all, aims to appeal to locals and also those visiting London during this exciting summer.
Andrew Scoones, Director of The Building Centre, said: "60 Buildings 60 Years demonstrates a remarkable cross-section of design talent and approaches that continue to make London, in our view, the most exciting city for modern architecture in the world".
The accompanying free 60 Buildings micro-app shows more information about each project including maps, links and images. Download The Building Centre App for free from the App Store, go to Exhibitions then choose ‘Videos and Catalogues’ for the free 60 Buildings micro-app.
Kim Vernau, CEO of BLP Insurance, said: “We are delighted to sponsor this exhibition as the skyline and landscape of London has changed more in the past 60 years than at any other time. The choice of buildings included in the exhibition is eclectic and it must have been very difficult to whittle the list down to just 60 buildings. It is a fascinating show and a true reflection of what the building and construction industry has achieved since 1952."
